WebM is the open video format of the web, used by browser recordings, video sites and many web apps. This tool takes the first frame of each WebM video and saves it as an image, at the full resolution of the video. Drop one video or a whole folder.
How to extract a thumbnail from WebM videos
- Drop your WebM videos in the box above, or click to pick them. You can add as many as you like.
- JPG is selected by default. Switch on PNG, WebP or AVIF instead, or as well.
- Optional: open Advanced Settings to resize the thumbnail by percentage, width or height, and add more sizes.
- Click Extract Thumbnails, then download each image or all of them at once. Nothing is uploaded: everything runs in your browser.
Why extract a thumbnail from WebM?
If you publish WebM videos on your site, a poster image from the first frame makes the page look complete before the video loads, instead of showing an empty box.
Frequently asked questions
Which WebM videos are supported?
WebM files with VP8, VP9 or AV1 video, which modern browsers decode. Screen recordings made in the browser are usually VP8 or VP9.
Can I choose another frame?
Not yet. The tool always takes the very first frame of the video. If your video starts with a black or blank frame, the thumbnail will be black too, so trim the start of the video first.
Are my videos uploaded?
No. The first frame is decoded and saved as an image in your browser, on your device. Your videos are never sent to a server, so this works for private files too.
