Remove the background of an image

Cut the subject out of a photo, on your device. Your images are never uploaded.

JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, and AVIF, as many as you like. Your computer does the work, so a big batch takes a moment.

A transparent background makes a photo easy to use: a product on your shop's colours, a portrait on a slide, a logo on any header. This tool finds the main subject of each image and removes everything else. An AI model does the work on your own device, so your photos stay with you.

How to remove a background

  1. Drop your images in the box above, or click to pick them. You can add a whole batch.
  2. Pick the output. PNG is selected by default. WebP and AVIF are much lighter for the web.
  3. Optional: open Advanced Settings to resize the result.
  4. Click the button and wait. The first time, your browser downloads the model (about 192 MB). After that it stays in your browser.
  5. Check the result on a checkerboard, white or black, then download it.

What works best

A clear subject in front of a background: a person, a product, an animal, a plate of food. Landscapes have no single subject, so most of the image can disappear, and SlingSite warns you when that happens. Very fine detail such as loose hair can look soft on large images, because the model works at 512 × 512 pixels and its result is scaled up to your image.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded?

No. The model runs in your browser, on your device. The only thing downloaded is the model itself, from Hugging Face. Your images are never sent anywhere.

Why can't I choose JPG?

JPG has no transparency, so the background would come back as a solid colour. PNG, WebP and AVIF keep it transparent.

How long does it take?

It depends on your device. With a good graphics card it is quick. Without one, it runs on the processor and takes longer, so keep the tab open.

Which model is used?
