Alt text describes an image for people using screen readers and for search engines. Writing it for a whole gallery takes time. This tool gives you a starting point: an AI model on your own device writes one short description per image, and you review it.
The text is always in English, whatever the language of this page, so translate it if your site uses another language.
How to generate alt text
- Drop your images in the box above, or click to pick them.
- Click the button and wait. The first time, your browser downloads the model (about 216 MB). After that it stays in your browser.
- Read each draft, edit it, and copy it.
Treat it as a draft
The model describes what it sees, in general terms: "A bowl of bread rolls on a red and white cloth." It knows nothing about your page, your brand or why the image is there, and it can be wrong. Good alt text says what the image means in its context, so check every draft before you publish it.
Frequently asked questions
Are my images uploaded?
No. The model runs in your browser, on your device. The only thing downloaded is the model itself, from Hugging Face. Your images are never sent anywhere.
Which languages does it support?
English only for now. You can edit the text or translate it yourself.
Can I get alt text while compressing?
Yes. On the image compressor, turn on the alt text option and it appears in the HTML snippet of each image.
