Terms and Conditions

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using the Slingsite service («Service») available at https://slingsite.github.io, you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions («Terms»). If you disagree with any part of these terms, you may not access the Service.

2. Description of Service

Slingsite provides a client-side image and video compression tool that processes files entirely within the user's web browser. The Service:

  • Generates multiple compressed versions of uploaded files optimized for different devices and formats
  • Operates entirely client-side with no server-side processing or storage
  • Is provided free of charge
  • Is available in multiple languages

3. User Responsibilities and Prohibited Uses

3.1. Permitted Use

You may use the Service for personal and commercial purposes to compress images and videos that you legally own or have explicit permission to process. Automated use of the service is permitted.

3.2. Prohibited Uses

You agree NOT to use the Service for:

  • Processing any illegal, harmful, threatening, abusive, or defamatory content.
  • Any military applications or purposes.
  • Violating the intellectual property rights (e.g., copyright, trademark) of others.
  • Attempting to reverse engineer, hack, or compromise the integrity of the Service.
  • Circumventing any security measures
  • Uploading malicious files or content designed to harm other users' devices

4. Intellectual Property Rights

4.1. User Content

You retain full ownership and all rights to the files you process through the Service. We claim no ownership or rights over your content or the generated output files. You are solely responsible for ensuring you have the necessary rights to process the content.

4.2. Service and Code

The Service's website content, branding, and features are our intellectual property. The Service's source code is available on GitHub under the MIT License. The Service utilizes third-party codec libraries, which are subject to their respective licenses.

5. Privacy and Data Processing

5.1. File Processing

All file processing occurs entirely within your browser (client-side). We do not receive, store, or have access to your files or their content at any time.

When you use the Google Drive button to upload images, a popup may appear asking for permission to access your name, email, and profile picture. This information is used only in your browser to connect to your Google Drive and is never sent to any server—your personal details remain securely in your browser.

5.2. Analytics and Monitoring

We collect limited, anonymous usage data via Google Analytics 4 to improve the Service. This includes: page views, user interactions, file format types (e.g., «PNG»), dimensions in pixels, and file sizes in bytes (width and height). This data is aggregated and does not contain personally identifiable information. We explicitly do NOT collect file names or file contents.

5.3. Error Reporting

We use Sentry for automated error reporting to identify and fix bugs. This data may include technical information about your browser and operating system but does not include your personal files.

5.4. Email Communications

If you voluntarily subscribe to our newsletter, your email address will be stored and managed by Brevo for the sole purpose of sending newsletters, product updates, and occasional service-related reminders. We will never sell your email address. You may unsubscribe at any time and being subscribed is not a requirement to use the Service.

5.5. GDPR Compliance

Our data processing practices comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). You have the right to access, rectify, or request the deletion of your personal data (e.g., your email address). We process data based on:

  • Consent (when you subscribe to emails)
  • Legitimate interest (for anonymous analytics and error monitoring to improve the Service)

5.6. Cookies

We use cookies for analytics (only if you consent). Cookies do not contain personal data about your files. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but some features may be limited.

6. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

6.1. «AS-IS» Service

The Service is provided «AS-IS» and «AS-AVAILABLE». To the fullest extent permissible by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including but not limited to:

  • Implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
  • Accuracy, reliability, or completeness of compression results
  • Compatibility with all file formats or devices

6.2. No Guarantees

We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that the compression results will meet your specific needs or quality standards.

6.3. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of data, profits, or business interruption, arising from the use of or inability to use the Service.

7. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the operators of Slingsite from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses, including legal fees, arising out of or in any way connected with your access to or use of the Service, violation of these Terms or violation of any third-party rights.

8. Future Monetization

We reserve the right to introduce monetization methods in the future, including advertising, affiliate marketing, or premium paid features.

9. Modifications to Terms

We may modify these Terms at any time by posting the revised terms on this page. Changes become effective immediately upon posting. Your continued use of the Service after such changes constitutes your acceptance of the new Terms.

10. Termination

We reserve the right to terminate or suspend access to our Service immediately, without prior notice or liability, for any reason whatsoever, including without limitation if you breach the Terms.

11. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms shall be governed and construed in accordance with the laws of Spain. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be resolved in the competent courts of Palma, Spain.

12. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is held to be unenforceable or invalid, such provision will be changed and interpreted to accomplish the objectives of such provision to the greatest extent possible under applicable law, and the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.

13. Contact Information

For any questions about these Terms, please contact us at https://github.com/damiarita/slingsite/issues.

14. Acknowledgments

This Service is made possible by open-source, third-party libraries and codecs. We are grateful to the open-source community for their contributions. A full list of dependencies can be found in the project's source code repository.
