MOV is the QuickTime format used by iPhones, Macs and many cameras. This tool takes the first frame of each MOV video and saves it as an image, at the full resolution of the video. Drop one video or a whole folder.
How to extract a thumbnail from MOV videos
- Drop your MOV videos in the box above, or click to pick them. You can add as many as you like.
- JPG is selected by default. Switch on PNG, WebP or AVIF instead, or as well.
- Optional: open Advanced Settings to resize the thumbnail by percentage, width or height, and add more sizes.
- Click Extract Thumbnails, then download each image or all of them at once. Nothing is uploaded: everything runs in your browser.
Why extract a thumbnail from MOV?
Getting a still from an iPhone or camera clip is handy for a cover photo, a social post or a quick preview, without opening a video editor.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use iPhone videos?
Yes, on most devices. iPhone MOV files use H.264 or HEVC. HEVC decoding depends on your browser and hardware: it works in Safari, and in Chrome or Edge on devices with HEVC support. ProRes MOV files from professional cameras cannot be read by browsers.
Can I choose another frame?
Not yet. The tool always takes the very first frame of the video. If your video starts with a black or blank frame, the thumbnail will be black too, so trim the start of the video first.
Are my videos uploaded?
No. The first frame is decoded and saved as an image in your browser, on your device. Your videos are never sent to a server, so this works for private files too.
