WebM with the VP9 codec is an open format made for the web: it plays in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and recent Safari and is usually lighter than H.264 at the same quality. Drop WebM videos, or any other videos, choose the new resolution and download WebM files sized for your pages.
How to resize WebM videos
- Drop your videos in the box above, or click to pick them. You can add as many as you like.
- Choose the new size: a percentage of the original (50% by default), an exact width or an exact height. Click More Sizes to get several resolutions.
- WebM (VP9) is already selected as the output format. Open Advanced Settings to add MP4 versions, or to remove the audio.
- Click Start Resizing, then download each file or all of them at once. Nothing is uploaded: everything runs in your browser.
Why resize to WebM?
Hero videos, product demos and background loops should be no larger than the player that shows them. A resized VP9 WebM keeps the page light, and adding an MP4 fallback covers every browser. When the audio is kept, it is stored in a WebM-compatible codec (Opus), converted automatically if needed.
Frequently asked questions
Does WebM play in Safari?
Recent versions of Safari on macOS and iOS play VP9 WebM. For older Apple devices, also export an MP4 version from Advanced Settings.
Why does VP9 encoding take a while?
VP9 is more demanding than H.264, and everything runs on your device. Smaller output sizes encode faster.
Are my videos uploaded?
No. The video is decoded and encoded in your browser, on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, which also means there is no file size limit other than your device memory.
