HEVC, also called H.265, compresses video roughly twice as efficiently as H.264: a similar quality at around half the file size. It is the codec iPhones record in and plays natively on Apple devices and most modern hardware.
How to convert videos to HEVC (H.265)
- Drop your videos in the box above, or click to pick them. You can add as many as you like.
- HEVC (H.265) is already selected as the output format. Switch on other formats if you want them too.
- Optional: open Advanced Settings to resize by percentage, width or height, and add more sizes.
- Click Start Conversion, then download each file or all of them at once. Nothing is uploaded: the conversion runs in your browser.
Why convert videos to HEVC (H.265)?
Use HEVC to save storage or bandwidth, especially for Apple-centric audiences. HEVC encoding depends on your browser and hardware: it works in Safari and in Chrome or Edge on devices with HEVC support. If it is not available, the converter shows an error and you can choose MP4 (H.264) instead.
Frequently asked questions
Why does HEVC conversion fail on my computer?
Browsers can only encode HEVC when the operating system or graphics hardware provides an encoder. Try Safari on a Mac, or Chrome or Edge on a recent device, or pick H.264 MP4.
Will HEVC videos play on websites?
Safari plays HEVC everywhere; Chrome and Edge play it on devices with hardware support; Firefox support is limited. For websites, offer H.264 MP4 or WebM as a fallback.
Are my videos uploaded?
No. The video is decoded and encoded in your browser, on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, which also means there is no file size limit other than your device memory.
