Convert MOV to HEVC (H.265)

Turn large MOV files into compact HEVC MP4 videos without leaving your browser.

MP4, WebM, MOV, and MKV, as many as you like. Your computer does the work, so long videos take a while.

Screen recordings and camera exports saved as MOV can be huge, especially when they use H.264. Re-encoding them to HEVC in an MP4 container can shrink them considerably while keeping a similar quality, and Apple devices play HEVC natively.

How to convert MOV to HEVC (H.265)

  1. Drop your MOV files in the box above, or click to pick them. You can add as many as you like.
  2. HEVC (H.265) is already selected as the output format. Switch on other formats if you want them too.
  3. Optional: open Advanced Settings to resize by percentage, width or height, and add more sizes.
  4. Click Start Conversion, then download each file or all of them at once. Nothing is uploaded: the conversion runs in your browser.

Why convert MOV to HEVC (H.265)?

Save disk space and make files easier to share. HEVC encoding needs support in your browser and hardware, available in Safari and in Chrome or Edge on many recent devices. If your MOV is already HEVC, resizing it in Advanced Settings is the way to get a smaller file.

Frequently asked questions

My MOV is from an iPhone, will it get smaller?

Recent iPhones already record in HEVC, so the gain may be small. Reduce the size with the resize option in Advanced Settings to get a lighter file.

Why does the conversion fail?

Your browser could not find an HEVC encoder on this device. Try Safari, or Chrome or Edge on more recent hardware, or choose H.264 MP4.

Are my videos uploaded?

No. The video is decoded and encoded in your browser, on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, which also means there is no file size limit other than your device memory.
