AVIF compresses images far better than older formats: files are often around half the size of a comparable JPG and noticeably smaller than WebP, with fewer blocky artifacts. All major browsers now display it. Convert your images here without installing anything.
How to convert images to AVIF
- Drop your images in the box above, or click to pick them. You can add as many as you like.
- AVIF is already selected as the output format. Switch on other formats if you want them too.
- Optional: open Advanced Settings to resize by percentage, width or height, and add more sizes.
- Click Start Conversion, then download each file or all of them at once. Nothing is uploaded: the conversion runs in your browser.
Why convert images to AVIF?
If page speed matters, AVIF is the format that saves the most bytes. It supports transparency, high dynamic range and wide color. The trade-off is encoding time: AVIF takes longer to create than JPG or WebP, so large batches need a bit of patience.
Frequently asked questions
Which browsers support AVIF?
Chrome and Edge (since 2020), Firefox (since version 93) and Safari (since version 16) all display AVIF. For very old browsers, serve a JPG or WebP fallback.
Why does AVIF conversion take longer?
AVIF uses a much more sophisticated compression algorithm. When your browser cannot encode AVIF natively, we use a WebAssembly encoder, which is thorough but slower.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser, on your device. Your images are never uploaded to a server, so this works for private and confidential files too.
