Every time you edit and save a JPG, it is compressed again and loses a little more detail. Converting it to PNG first gives you a lossless working copy: you can crop, annotate and save it as often as you want without new artifacts. It also helps when a tool or form only accepts PNG.
How to convert JPG to PNG
- Drop your JPG files in the box above, or click to pick them. You can add as many as you like.
- PNG is already selected as the output format. Switch on other formats if you want them too.
- Optional: open Advanced Settings to resize by percentage, width or height, and add more sizes.
- Click Start Conversion, then download each file or all of them at once. Nothing is uploaded: the conversion runs in your browser.
Why convert JPG to PNG?
Use PNG for images you will keep editing, for screenshots saved as JPG by mistake, or when an app, template or print service asks for PNG. Expect bigger files: a photo as PNG is often several times the size of the JPG. To publish on a website, JPG, WebP or AVIF stay the better choice.
Frequently asked questions
Will the PNG look better than my JPG?
It will look the same. PNG keeps the pixels exactly as they are, including any compression artifacts the JPG already has, and prevents new ones.
Does PNG give my JPG a transparent background?
No. A JPG has no transparency, so the PNG has the same solid background. Removing a background needs an image editor.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser, on your device. Your images are never uploaded to a server, so this works for private and confidential files too.
