AVIF is the most efficient image format browsers support today. A JPG converted to AVIF is often about half its original size while looking the same, and AVIF handles gradients and skies with fewer blocky artifacts than JPG. Drop your photos and convert them in one go.
How to convert JPG to AVIF
- Drop your JPG files in the box above, or click to pick them. You can add as many as you like.
- AVIF is already selected as the output format. Switch on other formats if you want them too.
- Optional: open Advanced Settings to resize by percentage, width or height, and add more sizes.
- Click Start Conversion, then download each file or all of them at once. Nothing is uploaded: the conversion runs in your browser.
Why convert JPG to AVIF?
Photos are usually the heaviest part of a web page. Moving them from JPG to AVIF gives the biggest reduction in page weight you can get without touching your design. Encoding AVIF is slower than JPG, so give large batches a moment.
Frequently asked questions
Is AVIF better than WebP for photos?
Usually yes: at the same visual quality AVIF files tend to be smaller than WebP. WebP encodes faster and works in slightly older browsers. You can create both at once by switching on WebP too.
Can I still use JPG as a fallback?
Yes. Keep your original JPGs and serve AVIF with a picture element; browsers that do not understand AVIF will load the JPG.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser, on your device. Your images are never uploaded to a server, so this works for private and confidential files too.
