Convert GIF to PNG

Replace old GIF graphics with PNG, the lossless format with full color and smooth transparency.

Drop your images here

JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, and AVIF, as many as you like. Your computer does the work, so a big batch takes a moment.

GIF is limited to 256 colors and on/off transparency. PNG has none of those limits and is just as lossless, which makes it the modern replacement for GIF logos, icons and simple graphics. Drop your GIFs and get PNG files with the same pixels and transparent areas.

How to convert GIF to PNG

  1. Drop your GIF files in the box above, or click to pick them. You can add as many as you like.
  2. PNG is already selected as the output format. Switch on other formats if you want them too.
  3. Optional: open Advanced Settings to resize by percentage, width or height, and add more sizes.
  4. Click Start Conversion, then download each file or all of them at once. Nothing is uploaded: the conversion runs in your browser.

Why convert GIF to PNG?

Static GIFs are a leftover from the early web. PNG keeps them pixel-perfect, works in every editor and tool, and lets you edit the image later with full color. If your GIF is animated, note that the converter keeps only its first frame, which is handy to get a still preview.

Frequently asked questions

What happens to animated GIFs?

The PNG is a still image of the first frame. The animation is not kept.

Is the transparency kept?

Yes. Transparent pixels in the GIF stay transparent in the PNG.

Are my images uploaded?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser, on your device. Your images are never uploaded to a server, so this works for private and confidential files too.
