AVIF produces tiny files, but it is still new: many image editors, office suites and older systems cannot open it. Converting AVIF to PNG gives you a lossless copy that works everywhere and keeps transparent backgrounds.
How to convert AVIF to PNG
- Drop your AVIF files in the box above, or click to pick them. You can add as many as you like.
- PNG is already selected as the output format. Switch on other formats if you want them too.
- Optional: open Advanced Settings to resize by percentage, width or height, and add more sizes.
- Click Start Conversion, then download each file or all of them at once. Nothing is uploaded: the conversion runs in your browser.
Why convert AVIF to PNG?
Pick PNG when you need to edit the image, place it in a document or presentation, or hand it to someone whose software does not know AVIF. PNG keeps the image exactly as decoded, transparency included. The PNG will be much larger than the AVIF; for a website, keep the AVIF.
Frequently asked questions
Why can't I open AVIF files on my computer?
AVIF support depends on the operating system and the app. Browsers display it, but many editors and viewers do not yet. A PNG copy solves that.
Is transparency kept?
Yes. Transparent and semi-transparent pixels of the AVIF are preserved in the PNG.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser, on your device. Your images are never uploaded to a server, so this works for private and confidential files too.
